The Passchendaele Museum in Zonnebeke looks back on a particularly successful season. Thanks in part to the new immersive exhibition ‘Passchendaele 1917’ and the temporary exhibition ‘Echoes of War’, the museum managed to attract no less than 107,049 visitors.

In 2024, the museum was open from 1 February to 17 November. Despite the shorter opening period, the museum still recorded excellent visitor figures. As many as 107,049 visitors visited, for instance, 5,068 more than in 2023 over the same period.

‘It is fantastic to see how many people have found their way to our museum and appreciate the efforts to keep the story of the Battle of Passchendaele alive,’ says Joachim Jonckheere, chairman of the Passchendaele Museum. ‘The renovation of the museum already offers an excellent reason to return in 2025.’

From 18 November, the doors closed for major renovation works. Numerous colleagues and volunteers joined forces to safely store the collection and start the first demolition works. For the realisation of the renovation, the Passchendaele Museum is working closely with the municipality of Zonnebeke and several contractors.

From 1 February 2025, visitors can visit the underground part of the museum, such as the dugout (underground shelter), artillery room, immersive exhibition ‘Passchendaele 1917’, trenches and room ‘Echoes of War’. On 5 April 2025, the Passchendaele Museum will reopen in all its glory – a date to mark down in your diary!
