This year, the Passchendaele Museum in Zonnebeke will remain open longer than usual. For the first time, visitors can also come in December and during the Christmas holidays, where they can explore the renewed museum exhibition and a special winter trail for children.

Renewed Museum

The renewed Passchendaele Museum guides visitors step by step through the war years with an adapted and more chronological storyline, complemented by an extensive display of collection items and personal stories.

Life-like scenes, the reconstructed trenches, a replica dugout, and the immersive exhibition Passchendaele 1917 make the history tangible, while the free renewed audio guide provides extra historical context and allows visitors to explore at their own pace.

Winter Quest for Families

During the Christmas holidays, there is a special activity for families: the winter quest with museum rat Maurice. Children up to 12 years old can search the museum for a hidden word. Those who find it will receive a small reward at the end of their visit. The trail runs from 20 December to 4 January.

Extend Your Visit in Zonnebeke

After visiting the museum, it is worth staying a little longer in Zonnebeke. Explore the castle grounds in a peaceful winter setting, enjoy a panoramic view of the winter landscape during a free visit to the Zonnebeke church tower, or visit one of the cemeteries in the area. The winter season shows the heritage landscape of the Westhoek at its most serene, sometimes even under a white blanket of snow.

Throughout December, local businesses and associations also organise various winter events. More information and an overview of the programme can be found at www.toerismezonnebeke.be.
