We visited your museum 90 years to the day that my grandpa Walter Ellis was killed. 15 July 2007. We found the service and the exebition of the trench, very moving. we left some of his letter, he sent back home.He lost his wife in the flu epidemic in April 1917. and my mother now aged 93, was brought up by her Aunt and Uncle. We will never forget him. Daughter Ada Ivy, Grandaughter Marie

The war of then
Now already a long time ago
This way 90 years
Gun balls, grenades or gas.
Nothing be possible stop they.
Were they now young or old
Tough he-man s or tender boys
But they continued come
Many say
“ For good of the people they have died”
Others say
“ Useless gun flesh and for what”
Then in 1914-1918 they did not die as kannonen flesh
But as people, with a good aim for their eyes
I think , time on time again, that we must thank them
Who know we were not be here?

De oorlog van toen
Nu al zolang geleden
Zo een 90 jaar
Kogels, granaten of gas .
Niets kon hen tegenhouden
Waren ze nu jong of oud
Stoere bink’s of tedere jongens
Ze bleven maar komen
Velen zeggen
“Voor het goede van de mens zijn ze gestorven”
Anderen zeggen
“Nutteloos kanon vlees en voor wat”
Toen in 1914-1918 stierven ze niet als kannonen vlees
Maar als mensen met een goed doel voor ogen
Ik denk keer op keer weer, dat we ze moeten danken
Wie weet anders waren we er niet?

I want to say that I just finished working on a Canadian Feature film called "Passchendaele", due out next rememberance day. And let me tell you it really opened my eyes about what really went on in the Battlefields. I don't think I can really say enough to all of the brave soliders, who fought in the rain and the mud, for months at a time, going with out eating for days, and freezing in the trenches, and to the brave canadians that gave their lives for a country that they would never step foot, and return home to again. Thank You.

Just caught a part of the remembrance sunday program being televised, there was a chap on there a 109yrs old, the last survivor of Passchendale. It was saddening but also made me happy to watch. thoughts are with those lost.. Chris

My grandfather fought at Passchendaele in the latter stages of the War.
He won the DCM for holding the Germans at bay with a machine gun placed on the railway cutting.
He was the only one left. All of his mates were either killed or severely wounded.
Lest we forget
