Een echt mooie, aangrijpende ervaring om het museum te bezoeken. Dank ook aan de superenthousiaste gids Frans. Zo'n mensen brengen een "dood" museum opnieuw tot leven. Grandioos.

Nimmer vergeten Moedige piotten, gesneuveld voor ’t vaderland in wel duizend graven, kameraden begraven hier op het kerkhof, in de Westhoek beland. Toen ’t niemandsland zijn zonen verslond in kille grachten, geen brood, met de kogel als dood geleden, gestreden, aan het verschrikkelijke front. Vaders en zonen, gevochten aan den Yser in den Grooten Oorlog, en toch ‘t maakt de mensheid nooit wijzer. Negentig jaren voorbij, in weer en wind is ’t graf van onze soldaten niet eenzaam verlaten, nimmer vergeten, door ons immer bemind. Uit respect voor onze gesneuvelden.

Thank you to the Memorial Museum Passchendaele staff for keeping the memories of our fallen service personal alive and not forgotten. I have enjoyed my visit to your site and would like to tell you about a member of my family - Lieutenant Ralph Dorchel Doughty MC, was born on 1st October 1891, in Stratford, New Zealand. He went to Australia in 1913 (to work) and at the beginning of World War I, and then enlisted in Sydney, N.S.W on the 28th August, 1914, joining the 1st Australian Artillery Division and fought at Gallipoli, France, and Belgium dying of wounds on 25th July 1917 (aged 25) to be interred in Coxyde Military Cemetery, Belgium. He was awarded the Military Cross and was made a Lieutenant. Ralph wrote five day by day personal diaries that have been transcribed and are at the link shown below, and tell the story of the life of a bombardier.

A long term dream of mine came true when I was able to attend the commemoration service at Tyne Cot on 4/10/2007 - 90 years to the day that my great uncle Pvte Oscar Steers was killed. I hope the information I left the museum about him is of use - thank you all for taking such great care of our brave soldiers all these years.

As we commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele and Remembrance Day Nov 11, 2007, my family and I honour the peoples of Europe for their enduring gratitude for their liberators, including my great grandfather, Pvte. Frank B. Moore, Canadian Infantry (Saskatchewan Regiment) who died from wounds suffered in battle on Oct 30, 1917 at Passchendaele. We take comfort in knowing that though his final journey did not bring him home to his beloved wife and children (including my grandmother)he has found his eternal peaceful resting place at Nine Elms British cemetary in Belgium. To Cynthia and Larry Mack, I am forever indebted to you for the reconnection you have given my father to his grandfather, almost 50 years to the day that he was first aquainted with his grandfather, at Nine Elms. As you both know your act of kindness, which included photos, video, and documentation, has left him speechless and deeply moved. Cynthia and Larry - myself, my sister and brother are also indebted to you for connecting us to our great-grandfather which we would never have known. Lest we forget.
